Open Education Licensing - Setup

What we are doing

The project will clarify the copyright and licensing issues around MOOCs and other open online resources in the current Australian higher education market and will develop and disseminate practical resources to help Australian universities compete globally.

The project team will

Collect and analyse

data on the current plans and needs of all Australian universities around copyright, licensing and open education practices;

Develop

and disseminate an effective and practical copyright and licensing tool to assist university teachers and managers with making effective business and pedagogical decisions around online education materials and services; and

Disseminate

information to help the sector to develop effective policies and practices for the development and deployment of open online education in a global environment.

In 2015 the project team surveyed and collected information from managers, educators and information professionals in Australian universities about their current understanding and experiences with licensing issues for open online education. On the basis of information collected, in 2016 the team developed an online Open Education Licensing Toolkit for the Australian Higher Education sector. Testing and further development of the toolkit was undertaken via stakeholder workshops held around Australia from July to October 2016. The OEL Toolkit will be available online from November 2016.
